Learning Leadership Skills Away from the Office
Yes folks, this is how I coached leaders to build their leadership skills outside of work. More importantly, this is how I learned most of my leadership skills:
Gain leadership skills at home by doing the following:
Helping kids with their homework
Cleaning the bath
Cooking for others
Doing the laundry
Buying/going food shopping
Giving your partner a relaxing massage
Cleaning the toilet and putting the lid down
Picking up the kids from school
Listening - really listening to people at home
Not forcing people to do things your way
Not interrupting when people are speaking
Talking to kids about the importance of questioning the world with a sense of freedom
Getting the kids involved with cleaning and cooking!
Giving kids the freedom to choose what kind of schooling/learning best suits their needs
Hugging your kids every day
Looking at the color of your parent's eyes
Never raising your voice when disagreements occur/listening empathetically
Letting your partner/spouse/friend free to be who they want to be and do
Doing what you say you will do
Telling people you love them
Calling your parents (no matter if it's 3am) and telling them you love them
Sending your loved ones postcards (not emails) for their birthday
...
Leadership is being in service. You can do this right in the comfort of your home!
After all, you can't be authentic if you are a leader only at work.
What would you add to this list?
OR
Which one would you try from the list?

Gab
