There is Nothing to align!!!
Why do we seek alignment and the need to know we are aligned?
Audience: Oh but when I am in flow, I feel I am connected to the universal energy - the cosmos!
GC: How do you… now let’s be careful… how do you “know” if there is some connection or alignment with something “greater”?
Audience: Because “I’m not there”
GC: Is that your text-book answer?!
Audience: I mean there is no sense of a controlling “me” that is forcing anything. It’s just happening.
GC: Is that what you refer to as being aligned with the greater universe or energy?
Audience. Yes.
GC: But you are not understanding the question, I am sorry. How do you know you are in “alignment”?
Audience: I just told you.
GC: Wait, listen carefully. Go slowly. Watch how your mind is communicating this. You said you were in a so-called “flow-state”. Let’s take that for the moment.
Audience: I feel like time doesn’t exist.
GC: Ok. Yes you feel time is not important and does come into play during that activity. But how do you know you are in “alignment”?
Audience: I don’t understand.
GC: Let’s say you are in a cafe, sitting down drinking a nice coffee and writing your book. And you have lost track of time. You are totally immersed in that activity out of a certain sense of joy. You type and type away, oblivious perhaps to what is going on around you. Is this resonating?
Audience: Yes.
GC: When one is in that state of timelessness, which is not a state technically, but for the moment let’s call it that, one seems free to express what comes; what is. Right?
Audience: Free in the sense that whatever is coming is expressed in some form of energy., though words in this example.
GC: Okay, now would you say that knowledge operates in the scope of time not timelessness?
Audience: Yes to some degree- I need to know how to type and use the computer.
GC: Right, but what of the words that flow?
Audience: They just… flow!
GC: Do they have a sense of time?
Audience: No because I lose track of time. I’m not even thinking about it.
GC: So in that case, when words are flowing, why do they need to be aligned to anything?
Audience: I see. The moment I bring in the word “aligning to god or the universe” it becomes confined to knowledge.
GC: Which means that you have a picture of what the universe might feel or look like in your mind. The moment you align to it, you are aligning to a thought process that fetches that image and then you say you are aligned to it when you are in flow state. What is the necessity of “knowing” this and can we ever really “know” what that other thing is? And at the moment we say we are aligned, are we even aligned? What is aligned to what?
Audience: I’m trying to follow.
GC: Why do you need to know you are aligned with an energy source that is beyond knowledge to comprehend? How can knowledge define what the universe is, which is something apparently quite extraordinary, and then say that it is aligned to it self? Do you see what I mean?
Audience: The universe is not to comprehend with knowledge.
GC: How can it?! Then it becomes something small, an idea, a picture.
Audience: But what of all this talk of a Higher Self, or God, or otherwise? Are these then only ideas?
GC: What do you say?
Audience: According to what you are saying, they are.
GC: Let me ask that question again. Not according to what GC is saying - that’s meaningless. We are wasting our time if you are here trying to believe or see through my eyes. What do you say? What is your own mind telling you? Go slow.
Audience: Mind is trying so hard to battle this. It has created an image of it. There are so many theories about it. Science that apparently proves quite a lot of it…
GC: That’s just it. Now say for a moment at least, I do away with the theories, the science, what other people have said - that’s all in the field of knowledge. In other words, I disregard everything I think I “know” about it. Then what do I know?
Audience: It’s weird - it’s like it no longer exists although it still feels like I am part of something.
GC: Well we don’t really know if it exists or not but basically can we then say that all these theories are just things in the “known”? Can we move on from there?
Audience: Okay.
GC: Because you see there is a danger that we make images out of all of these, and we think we know all is perfect in those images. But those images are just figments of our imagination - made-up. You can’t make up an image of any of that and therefore, there is no way to describe it in words. So the next question is, why does the human mind seek something greater?
Audience: That was going to be my question!
GC: Are you waiting for GC to answer it?
Audience: It gives us a sense of security.
GC: Which means what? Are you afraid of something? Now we would have to go into the question of fear.
Audience: Yes please, can we do that?
GC: Yes, but perhaps we should rest first!
