What’s Another Word for “Escape”? Courage.

It must be one of the most quoted words in the history of humankind. One of the most over used, over emphasized words in motivational language:

"Courage".

I'm going to question the necessity of this at all because it seems to be something humans have to carry in their "toolbelt of life".

There are so many quotes and books about courage. Even so-called "peace makers" have encouraged it. Experts encourage practicing it. Why?

We need to have the courage to stand tall
We need to have courage to succeed
We need to have courage to overcome fear
We need to have courage to be vulnerable
We need to have courage to be strong
We need to have courage to show our weakness
We need to have courage to be successful, etc.

Gee, it sounds like this word is the cure for everything!

Perhaps many of you will disagree with what I am about to say and that's perfectly okay - please do so. Perhaps this word has gotten you out of difficult situations in the past. Perhaps it's won you some awards or helped you be successful. That's okay. What I am questioning here is why do we need and rely on it so much? Because courage has also been responsible for the death of millions as well.

Question this very carefully, just like the word "love", if we come at it with all the definitions of it, experiences, etc, we will never know what it actually is. So wipe the page clear for a moment as we question together, freely, what is courage and why are we always told we need to "have it".

Isn't courage coming from the need to run away from something you fear? When you are afraid, you will either suppress your fear, escape from it by indulging in some form of entertainment, or seek the need to have courage which is really a form of resistance to fear.

The bigger your fear, the more resistance you will seek because you have been taught that fear is a "negative" trait and therefore you go off to produce the opposite of that - no fear; courage; etc. In other words, there is the basis of duality.

The ego-self/me, looks at that fear and in escape, it resists, tries to apply some method to manage it, goes looking to books and experts, etc, and therefore create a separation of the fear itself. Fear is "what is" and the movement of courage to resist or overcome it it is manifested by the ego/self. So the need for "courage" is created to run away from the fear - "I must overcome!".

Even saying beautiful things such as trying to practice courage to be more compassionate is an escape from fear because it creates the separation of fear and the "me". You are still running away!

Please don't agree or disagree with what is being portrayed but rather listen, find out for yourself if this is true. Next time you have a fear of failure, watch what your mind does as it goes looking for the action of "courage" to resist fear.

The "me" will always try to move away from fear. But does the sky run away when lightening strikes?

Love and light,
